About our Camp and Thetis Island

Camp Columbia

Situated on beautiful Thetis Island, Camp Columbia is a large waterfront property of natural beauty, overlooking the Stuart Channel and the Vancouver Island Mountain Range. It is readily accessible by ferry from Chemainus. The Camp is owned and operated by the Diocese of British Columbia of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Enjoy our tradition, spanning over 60 years, of building relationships, growing spiritually, and having an exciting summer experience. Our programs include paddling a canoe, supervised swimming and other sports, riding the 'Blob,' spending a quiet time with a new friend and so many other possibilities to form that lifelong, cherished memory. Excellent meals are a part of everyday life at camp.

Island History

Between 1851 and 1853 the frigate H.M.S. Thetis sailed into a group of small islands. Captain Kuper named the two largest, Thetis and Kuper after his ship and himself. Three smaller islands were blessed with the names of his lieutenants, Scott, Dayman and Hudson.
